Why annual stove maintenance is important
Over time, the intense heat within your stove causes internal components to degrade. Regular maintenance extends the lifespan of your appliance, improves fuel efficiency, saving you money on logs or smokeless fuel. It also ensures safety by checking for leaks and structural integrity.
Firebrick Replacement
Firebricks line the inside of your stove to reflect heat back into the firebox and protect the outer steel or cast-iron shell. If you notice significant cracks or crumbling, the heat can warp the stove’s body, leading to permanent damage. We source and fit high-grade vermiculite or clay bricks tailored to your specific model.
Rope Seal Replacement
The glass and doors of your stove are sealed with heat-resistant rope. Over time, this rope flattens and loses its “spring,” allowing excess air to leak into the firebox. This makes your fire burn too fast and inefficiently. We replace worn seals with fresh, high-density ceramic rope to ensure an airtight, controllable burn.
Baffle Plate Maintenance
The baffle plate (or throat plate) sits at the top of the firebox. It directs flue gases back into the fire to be re-burnt, increasing efficiency. Because it takes the brunt of the heat, it can eventually thin or warp. Our technicians inspect, clean, and—if necessary—replace your baffle plate to prevent blockages and maintain optimal airflow.
